Energy Efficiency for Community Buildings
An event for those who manage community buildings. The morning also includes input from National Energy Action (NEA)DATE: Sat. 14th June 2007
TIME: 9.30am 12.30pm
VENUE: Renhold Village Hall
COST: Free - (event includes a free booklet on energy efficiency produced by NEA)
- Understand how to make community buildings more energy efficient.
- Be advised on energy efficient measures in the home.
- Have the opportunity to identify related energy efficiency.
- Be informed of the help available from BRCC and other agencies to reduce the carbon footprint of your community.
Play Area Management
An event for those responsible for the management of play area equipment. This event is facilitated by Roger Davis of ROSPA.DATE: Sat 30th June 2007
TIME: 9.30am 12.30pm
VENUE: The Princess Charlotte Room, Shuttleworth, Old Warden
COST: £5 for members, £10 for non members
- Understand the legal aspects of play area management.
- Know how to carry out regular safety checks.
- Understand what records have to be kept.
- Understand the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
- Have the opportunity to take part in a ‘hands on’ inspection of equipment at the Jubilee Play Centre.
Child Protection
Safeguarding children by enabling groups or organisations to adopt meaningful proactive practices.DATE: Wed 10th Oct, 2007
TIME: 10.00am 12.30pm
VENUE: The Community Room, BRCC Offices, Cardington
COST: £20 for members, £45 for non members
- Be able to identify forms of abuse.
- Have a better understanding of the measures for undertaking appropriate action through policy, procedure and practices for Child Protection.
- Have a better understanding of statutory regulations governing Child Protection.
- Understand how to develop and adapt model policies and agreements.
- Understand the requirements under public liability insurance.
Funding Parish & Town Plans
This workshop, aimed at parish/town plan groups, focuses on how to put together a successful application to the DEFRA Rural Social and Community Programme parish action plan and town plan grant fund.DATE: Mon. 16th July

- Have a better understanding of how to prepare successful funding applications to the DEFRA Rural Social and Community Programme.
Criminal Records Bureau Checks
An event for those responsible for ensuring that Criminal Records Bureau checks are undertaken for their staff and volunteers.DATE: Wed 5th Oct, 2007
TIME: 10.00am 12.30pm
VENUE: The Community Room, BRCC Offices, Cardington
COST: £20 for members, £45 for non members
- Gain a better understanding for the need for CRB checks and correct levels of checking for categories of work.
- Gain an understanding of the background as to why CRB checks form part of a recruitment process.
- Be able to accurately complete CRB forms to the required standard.
- Gain a better understanding of CRB/BRCC policies and procedures in relation to Umbrella Body guidance and best practice.
- Be able to use the correct procedures for identity checking of applicants.
- Identify common errors and causes for application forms to be returned.
First Aid for Appointed Persons
This course is ideal for smaller workplaces that present few health and safety risks, where a nominated or appointed person is required to take charge in the event of an illness or accident.DATE: Sat. 15th September
TIME: 9.30am 4.30pm
VENUE: Beds Police HQ, Woburn Rd, Kempston
COST: £70 (inc. Assoc of Chief Police Officers approved manual)
- Understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions.
- Provide first aid for minor injuries.
- Understand the importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures.
- Have the ability to assess situations and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
- Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely to a casualty who is unconscious and or in seizure.
- Demonstrate how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation promptly and effectively.
- Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and or in shock.
- Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely to a casualty who is chocking.
Introduction to Diversity and Equality
This half day course covers the six strands of diversity in relation to domestic legislation and the Human Rights Act. It also serves as an introduction to our modular higher level Diversity & Equality training.DATE: TBA
