Bedfordshire Rural Transport Partnership
Aims
- to work alongside the Local Transport Plans to enable and encourage co-ordination between commercial, local authority and voluntary services to ensure better integration of different modes of transport, and to link with the Rural Bus Services Grant.
- to map existing services.
- to develop and facilitate community involvement and participation to establish the level of need for transport.
- to support and encourage rural transport provision that contributes to healthy living, sustainability and tackling isolation.
- to help meet the needs of rural people for access to services, jobs and social facilities.
to ensure that community vehicles are made available, are used widely and efficiently for the benefit of all.
- to improve access to the countryside for Bedfordshire residents and visitors.
- to reduce dependency on the private car in rural areas.
Objectives
- to raise the profile of existing public and community transport, cycling and walking, and promote usage.
- to research the extent of existing provision, and the barriers to using public transport.
- to work with communities where public transport is limited or non-existent, and develop appropriate and sustainable local solutions.
- to augment the facilities available to users of public transport in order to make it a real alternative.
- to increase the quality and quantity of transport information available in rural areas.
- to develop the brokerage of community transport vehicles so that they are used efficiently, provide choice and complement other modes,
- to promote good practice in rural transport.
- to monitor progress and report to funding bodies at regular intervals,
- to administer grants efficiently and effectively.
