Town and parish council sites
We have assisted many Town and Parish Councils in developing and managing local green spaces as areas for wildlife and informal recreation. The services we provide are on a 'pick and mix' basis, with our involvement ranging from giving occasional advice to full site management. The services we can offer to Town and Parish Councils include:- Green-space audits and enhancement proposals
- Site access improvements
- Community consultation and consensus building activities
- Funding advice and support with submitting grant applications
- Practical assistance in organising and leading community volunteering events
- Support in establishment of 'Friends' groups and volunteer wardens
- Production and practical implementation of site Management Plans (including wildlife and heritage interpretation and habitat creation and conservation)
- Contract management
Another site in which we have had significant involvement is Castle Close Wildlife & Heritage Site in Sharnbrook. The site includes areas of mature woodland, scrub, grassland and a Scheduled Monument medieval moat.
Following an invitation from Sharnbrook Parish Council we drafted outline enhancement proposals for the site which was being gifted to the Council as part of a nearby housing development. We undertook community consultation exercises including guided walks and an evening presentation. A revised enhancement and management plan was adopted and working in partnership with the Parish Council we have secured funding, recruited local volunteers, overseen contractors and led work parties in undertaking tasks such as scrub clearance, hedge laying and pond creation, read more about Sharnbrook Castle Close on this pdf case study info.
