Environment and Planning
BRCC sees the protection and enhancement of the county's local environment as a top priority. Situated within one of the Government's national growth areas, Bedfordshire has been identified to accommodate 90000 new homes and associated infrastructure in the period up to 2031. BRCC is committed to working with communities, planners, developers and other stakeholders to maximise the environmental and wider community benefits from this planned growth. With a rapidly changing global climate, BRCC is also committed to working with local partners to help the county's communities cope with the resulting impacts of increased winter flooding, summer droughts and extreme storm occurrences. At the same time, BRCC will support local communities and business to minimise their carbon footprint and environmental impact.
BRCC is one of the few Rural Community Councils in England to have its own environment team. Established in 2004, following BRCC's 'takeover' of two areabased environmental services the Ivel and Ouse Countryside Project and the North Chilterns Trust the team is now able to provide a full countywide service, under four key headings: In delivering this countywide service, BRCC works closely with other local environmental service providers, including the Greensand Trust, Marston Vale Trust, Wildlife Trust, FWAG, Groundwork Trust and BTCV, to ensure that the county's communities receive the service they need.
Working across both urban and rural areas, BRCC delivers its countywide environmental service to a wide range of clients, including government agencies, developers, utilities, local authorities, town and parish councils, farmers, landowners and community groups.
