Nourishing Neighbourhoods

On 1 Feb 2008, BRCC and its partners started delivering 'Nourishing Neighbourhoods' – a 3 year, £150,000 food-based community health project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, Luton Primary Care Trust and Luton Borough Council. Nourishing Neighbourhoods builds on two successful community-led pilot projects: a fruit and vegetable box scheme operating in targeted communities across Luton; and a community food and skills project operating in five most deprived communities in Luton and Dunstable.

Community food access

In partnership with East Anglia Food Links, BRCC delivered a project to improve people's access to healthy and affordable food across rural areas in Mid and South Bedfordshire. A total of 14 community groups participated in the project, delivering a range of practical action, including the introduction of community veggie boxes, shops, cafés and allotments. In addition, cook and eat training sessions were delivered to older persons and 'mums and tots' groups and to traveller children.

You can download a pdf of the scoping report as well as the final report for the project.
