BRCC - the organisation
Established in 1953, we are an independent, countywide charity with an annual turnover in excess of £2 million and employing 40 staff in three offices across the county. As well as delivering a wide range of community development services to the county's urban and rural communities, we also serve as the Rural Community Council (RCC) for Bedfordshire. We are one of 38 county RCCs in England working together under the national RCC umbrella body, ACRE, to ensure that the rural voice is heard at all levels of government. Regionally, we also work with our five sister RCCs in the East of England through the regional RCC umbrella body, Rural Action East.
With a proven track record in community development developed over the past 50+ years, we are well-placed to support the county's urban and rural communities in responding to the new opportunities and challenges arising from the Government's growth area plans for Bedfordshire; and to the impacts of a rapidly changing global climate. These drivers, together with the Government's plans for sustainable community development, community empowerment and civic renewal, guide our business strategy and activities in the short to medium term.
Our business strategy
Our vision is one of thriving and sustainable communities across Bedfordshire and Luton. As a county-wide community development charity and the county Rural Community Council, we believe we have an important role to play in working towards this vision together with public, private, voluntary and community sector partners. In doing so, we see our role as an independent enabler, supporting communities to maximise their skills, resources and expertise to achieve a thriving and sustainable future. We work to achieve our vision, by delivering activities in pursuit of the following objectives:
- to be a centre of excellence for sustainable community development
- to create a greener and cleaner environment
- to build safer and stronger communities
- to promote better health and social care
- to strengthen the economies of local communities
- to provide an independent rural voice
